BLM Closes Public Lands in Recapture Canyon, UT to OHV Use

October 5, 2007 – The BLM Monticello Field Office has announced closure of 1,871 acres of public land in Recapture Canyon near Blanding, UT, to Off-highway Vehicle use.  According to the BLM, “the purpose of the closure is to protect cultural resources that have been adversely impacted, or are at risk of being adversely impacted, by unauthorized trail construction and OHV use.”  The closure will remain in effect until BLM decides that the adverse effects have been eliminated and proper measures have been implemented to prevent recurrence of these effects.  Maps of the affected area are available in the Monticello Field Office, 365 N. Main Street in Monticello.

For further information contact Nick Sandberg, Acting Field Office Manager, at (435) 587-1500.  To view the original notice in the Federal Register, click here.
