Modoc National Forest Begins Travel Management Process

May 13, 2008 – Modoc National Forest in California has published a notice of intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), which will serve as the Travel Management Plan (TMP) for the Forest.  The Forest's proposal is to add 339 miles of 1,170 existing unauthorized routes to the current system of roads and trails, seasonally close 20 miles of 74 added routes, seasonally close 313 miles of 214 existing routes, allow OHV use on 147 miles of existing routes where use is presently prohibited, and permanently close road 46B29HB (road along Boles Creek between Clear Lake and Steel Swamp).  Tables displaying road status and the proposed action map index can be found by clicking here.  Once the TMP is finalized, motorized use off designated routes will be prohibited.  Comments will be accepted until June 11, 2008.  Comments should be submitted to modoc.route.designation@fs.fed.us or to:
