BLM Impacts OHV Use with Corralled Bear Draft EIS in Clearwater National Forest

April 7, 2008 – The BLM Palouse Ranger District has released a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Corralled Bear project area within Clearwater National Forest in Idaho.  Some of the stated purposes for preparing the EIS include reducing long-term sedimentation to streams caused by unpaved roads; stabilizing stream banks made unstable by motorized vehicles; and providing for a reasonable level of OHV access and reducing user conflicts.  The proposed actions include decommissioning 8.4 miles of road, placing 14.2 miles of road into intermittent term service, designating a 5.5 mile OHV trail using existing and new trail segments, and recommending certain road restrictions based on the project roads analysis.  OHV use off designated routes will be prohibited.

Comments on the Draft EIS will be accepted until May 12, 2008.  Comments may be submitted by email to comments-northern-clearwater-palouse@fs.fed.us or by mail to:
